HDMI Over Fiber Optic Extenders
Fiber Optic HDMI Extenders are the newest way to overcome distance limitations that plague standard copper HDMI cables. Using optical transmission technology these extenders broadcast HD signals over multimode or single-mode fiber optic cable up to 3300ft from the source.
Each extension set includes an optical transmitter and receiver that convert AV signals into light pulses for transmission over single-mode or multimode fiber optic cable. The receiver converts those light pulses back into AV signals for the display.
Optical Extenders
Fiber optic extenders transmit HDMI and other audio/video signals over long distances with no loss of quality. They also provide immunity from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and optical isolation. They’re ideal for use in noisy environments such as sports arenas, hospitals, shopping malls, and conference rooms.
HDMI over fiber extenders convert HDMI signals into light pulses that are transmitted over single-mode or multi-mode optical cable. At the other end, an optical receiver converts those light pulses back into HDMI signals for a display or other downstream devices. These types of HDMI extenders are able to reach much farther distances than traditional copper cables or even CAT-6 cabling, making them perfect for applications such as long-distance HDTV distribution, eSports arenas, and more.
The VE882 Optical Multiport KVM Extender lets you send up to two video interfaces—including VGA, DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort—plus bi-directional IR and RS-232 over a single fiber optic cable. The extender supports signal resolutions up to 4K (UHD) 60Hz (4:4:4) and comes with a powerful yet compact transmitter and receiver.
The Camplex HDFX-500-TR is a detachable fiber optic HDMI 2.0 hdmi-over-fiber-optic-extenders extender that reaches up to 300m (984 ft) away from your source device over one LC single-mode or multi-mode optical fiber cable. The extender carries uncompressed 18Gbps HDR HDMI signals at resolutions up to 4K and offers RS-232 machine control.
HDMI Extenders
HDMI extenders allow you to transmit your high definition audio and video signals over longer distances than you could with traditional cables. Most HDMI cables reach a maximum of 50 feet before the signal degrades to an unwatchable level, but an HDMI extender will give you the extra range you need to get the most out of your high definition setup.
There are many different types of HDMI extenders available, so it’s important to know what type you need before buying one. A good place to start is by looking at the features that each one offers, and then comparing them to your needs. You can also find a wide variety of HDMI extender prices on the market, so it’s worth shopping around to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
If you’re extending an HDMI connection over a short distance, consider a high speed HDMI extender that uses a single Cat 5 or Cat 6 cable. This solution is ideal for use in offices or schools, as it provides easy installation and plenty of bandwidth for HD video. Another option is a fiber optic HDMI extender, which is ideal for large installations. The Camplex BG-HDMI-SM-TR HDMI over fiber extender, for example, can transmit uncompressed 4K@60Hz signals over a 984ft/300m single mode or multimode LC fiber cable. The kit includes a transmitter and receiver, and it supports CEC, HDCP, ARC, bi-directional IR pass through, and other advanced HDMI features.
HDBaseT Extenders
This HDMI HDBaseT extender over CAT5e/6/7 with IR – 70m enables you to transmit uncompressed HDMI signals up to 230ft/70m via one cost effective CAT5e/6 cable, delivering lossless video and multi-channel digital audio signals while maintaining signal strength and bi-directional RS232 and IR remote control. It works great for home entertainment systems like a TV or monitor, XBOX One S or PS4, Amazon Fire TV Cube, and other HD mpo-lc-harness-breakout-cables media players or displays and is also perfect for meeting room applications that require long HDMI extension distances from the HDMI source.
The KanexPro EXT-HDBT70C HDMI Extender over CAT5e/6/7 with EDID and IR is a high performance, HDBaseT 1.3 compatible extender set that delivers uncompressed high definition 1080p or 4K (3860×2160) resolution to any display up to 70m/231ft. It also transmits a full range of audio/video and data signals such as eARC, CEC, USB 2.0 for game pads or webcams, bi-directional RS232 and IR. It also supports PoE (Power over Ethernet) up to 100m/328ft.
Developed by the HDBaseT Alliance, HDBaseT is an AV transmission and distribution technology that consolidates different types of data for transmission over long distances. It transmits audio-visual, power, ethernet and control over a single twisted pair cable and it is backward compatible with older standards like HDBaseT 1.0 which has a maximum length potential of 100m/328ft. HDBaseT 1.0 maintains PAM16 encoding and is terminated with 8P8C modular connectors. The latest specification of HDBaseT is 3.0 which is able to deliver true 4K@60hz video and provides additional features that strengthen the technology’s versatility.
HDMI Baluns
The AVPro Edge AC-EXO-KIT is the first HDMI 2.1 extender to utilize multi-mode fiber for transporting high-resolution signals over long distances. The 8K Optical Isolator separates the source and display equipment to prevent interference with the digital signal, providing a clean uncompressed connection for 1080P at up to 984ft (300m) via a single shielded OM4 cable.
This solution is ideal for extending your existing copper wire HDMI system to accommodate your new Ultra HD TV or 4K projector. The extender supports a full range of features including EDID passthrough, auto down scaling and cascading up to 10 receivers (distance decreases to 165ft when cascading). The AC-EXO-KIT has also been engineered to support the transmission of bidirectional IR control signals over a return optical path.
What is the difference between HDMI balun and HDBaseT HDMI extender? HDMI balun is a cheaper solution that uses standard Ethernet cables to transmit the HDMI signal. However, it is limited in its ability to transfer the signal over long distances and does not support additional signals like Ethernet and USB.
On the other hand, an HDMI extender over HDBaseT is more advanced and uses a single Cat 5e UTP cable to carry multiple types of signals. In addition to HDMI, it can support Ethernet, USB and RS232, making it an ideal choice for a complete home wiring system.
