Waterproof Splice Connectors

Waterproof splice connectors seal splice connections from moisture and contaminants when crimped or soldered. They are commonly used in landscape lighting, irrigation and some outdoor equipment applications.

Blazing Products’ SnapLoc waterproof wire connectors are ideal for sprinkler valve splices and other outdoor installations. A simple squeeze and lock hydraulically pumps and packs waterproofing silicone around the splice.

Sealing

Waterproof splice connectors create a seal against water, salt, condensation, corrosion and heat. They also have a wide range of Ingress Protection ratings, providing varying levels of water immersion, dust resistance and shock proofing.

While electrical continuity is a critical aspect of an effective splice, the physical integrity of the connection is equally important. This includes the splice’s resistance to fatigue breakage and its ability to resist abrasion from rubbing against welds, screen wires and casing or borehole wall welds.

A waterproof splice connector’s construction ensures that the physical integrity of the splice is maintained through its life, reducing the potential for signal loss and equipment failure caused by unreliable connections. In addition, a waterproof splice connector’s protective coating prevents dirt and debris from clogging the splice’s internal pathway or contacts, extending its life and protecting against electrical short circuiting.

CoolSplice waterproof splice connectors are easy to terminate, eliminating the need for special tools. A common pair of pliers can be used to pushbutton terminate the insulated conductors into an insulation displacement crimp contact, making installation quick and simple. The termination button’s color coded indicator makes it easy to match the correct splice connector to a specific wire size, eliminating guesswork. The splice connector’s clear sidewall allows for a visual confirmation of a reliable, durable connection. This combination of reliability and ease of termination enables fast, high-quality splices.

Termination

In addition to waterproofing, many of the wire connectors waterproof splice connectors we carry also provide electrical termination. They are easy to use, saving you time and money in the field. Using insulation displacement technology, splice connectors eliminate the need to strip the ends of the wires – they terminate stranded and solid wires with a simple push button action. They are ideal for a wide range of wire sizes and install nearly twice as fast as traditional splices. Some even offer a gel-filled sealed version of the standard product, extending their use into harsh environments where ingress protection is required.

Some splice connectors feature a hands-free shutter mechanism that automatically applies the dust cap for you, eliminating the need to manually apply them every time. This makes them especially convenient for outdoor, weatherproof or submersible applications where the terminals may be exposed to dust and debris. Examples of these are OptoSpan’s industry-leading Select Series LC adapter panels for data centers, with their built-in hand-free shuttering system and IP5X rating.

For applications such as sprinkler or irrigation valve splices, we recommend wire connectors with double O-ring seals that keep out moisture and corrosion. They are also rated for continuous submersion in water. Choose from a selection of top-rated products by Blazing, King Innovation, Rain Bird and Paige Electric. The Blazing BVS-1 wire connector for irrigation valve splices features a lift and lock lever terminal that opens when the connector is pressed, inserts the wires and rotates closed. When the connection is made, a hydraulically-pumped silicone that is pre-filled fully encapsulates the bare wires, closing all entryways and providing a waterproof seal.

Installation

Waterproof splice connectors are often used to repair broken wires, and they also work well as waterproof connector manufacturer a first electrical connection between two opposing bare wire ends. Whether you need to connect an irrigation valve, repair a trailer or other weather sensitive wiring, a butt splice connector is a simple and effective solution. The insulation on the butt splice connector is heat-resistant and provides a moisture-resistant seal when crimped and heated. Most butt splice connectors can be quickly installed with a pair of ordinary pliers and are color coded to make it easy to match the appropriate gauge of wire.

If you need to install a butt splice connector, first turn off any electricity at the source. Then, carefully remove any strands that stick out of the end of the wire and twist the butt splice connector onto the wires pushing firmly until hand-tight. The waterproof silicone in the splice connector will seal the splice and protect it from water intrusion, corrosion and environmental contaminants. You can even use a tube of dielectric grease to add an extra layer of protection for the splice. Blazing Products offers several different types of waterproof wire connectors including the SnapLoc which easily locks tight for a secure splice, and the LV 9000 which is pre-filled with silicone to completely encapsulate all bare wires, closing entryways against moisture and corrosion.

Maintenance

If you’re working on a sensor installation that will be regularly submerged in water, you’ll want to keep the sensor wires protected from moisture. Adding waterproof connectors to these connections is an effective way to do so. Waterproof connectors are available in a variety of forms, each with its own unique advantages.

The most simple form is a splice terminal with two crimps that join a pair of stripped ends together. This splice terminal can be used to change or lengthen conductors within a circuit and is commonly found on irrigation, sprinkler, and other outdoor sensors. Crimp butt splice terminals are easy to use and feature a solder sleeve that closes over the crimps, preventing the splice from becoming exposed to the elements.

CoolSplice connectors feature a push button and Insulation Displacement Technology that allows a common pair of pliers to be used to terminate the insulated wires into a waterproof splice contact. This industry proven reliable connection is visually confirmed through the clear sidewall of each connector. These splice terminals are ideal for irrigation and sprinkler valve splices, cable repairs, or any splice that needs to be weather or submerged resistant.

Insulated waterproof marine grade automotive tinned copper butt splice connectors are an alternative to time-consuming tape, heat shrink, or mastics. These splice connectors provide a one-step process that eliminates the need for multiple steps and can be used on both solid and stranded wires. They also feature a high-quality polyolefin adhesive lined 3:1 ratio heat shrink to protect the splice from moisture and corrosion. They’re color-coded for gauge compatibility and are compliant with RoHS, ISO 9001:2008, and SGS standards.
